چکیده

Fifty dogs from the area around Barcelona, Spain, were evaluated for serologic evidence of exposure to vector-borne pathogens. Dirofilaria immitis, E h r l i c h i a c a n i s, Borrelia burgdorferi, L e i s h m a n i a infantum, Bartonella vinsonii s u b s p e c i e s b e r k h o f f i i , and Rickettsia rickettsii a n t i g e n s were used for testing purposes. Seroreactivity was determined in 3 different groups of dogs that were categorized based upon their L infantum infection status: uninfected healthy dogs (group 1), L infantum-infected healthy dogs (group 2), and L infantum-infected dogs with clinical manifestations consistent with leishmaniasis (group 3). Of the 50 dogs included in this study, 49 had serologic evidence of exposure to at least 1 organism for which testing

A serological study of exposure to arthropod-borne pathogens in dogs from northeastern Spain.

There is limited information regarding the prevalence of many vector borne pathogens in Europe and especially in Spanish dogs. We investigated 206 sick and 260 clinically healthy dogs from three different regions in northeastern Spain for antibodies to Rickettsia conorii (Rc), Ehrlichia canis (Ec), Anaplasma phagocytophilum (Ap), Bartonella henselae (Bh), Bartonella vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii (...

Surveillance for zoonotic vector-borne infections using sick dogs from southeastern Brazil.

For many vector-borne organisms, dogs can be used as sentinels to estimate the risk of human infection. The objective of this study was to use dogs as sentinels for multiple vector-borne organisms in order to evaluate the potential for human infection with these agents in southeastern Brazil. Blood from 198 sick dogs with clinicopathological abnormalities consistent with tick-borne infections w...

Rickettsia, Ehrlichia, Anaplasma, and Bartonella in ticks and fleas from dogs and cats in Bangkok.

Flea and tick specimens (5-10 fleas or ticks) on dogs and cats from various sites in Bangkok were tested by polymerase chain reaction and DNA sequencing to detect DNA of bacteria Rickettsia (gltA and 17 kDa genes), Anaplasmataceae (16S rRNA gene), and Bartonella (pap31 and its genes). We confirmed that Rickettsia sp. related to Rickettsia felis was detected in 66 of 98 (67.4%) flea specimens fr...
